Taming Technology
The thermometers used in clinical settings are fast and accurate, but not friendly by any definition. In order to transform the highly complex technology of a clinical thermometer into an at-home version, we had to come up with a solution that was both appealing and intuitive. We began by developing a fully realized portrait of our end user: the parent (usually the mother) of a sick child. The child is probably crying, and the parent panicked. It is probably the middle of the night, to add even more anxiety to the scenario.
Delivering Value: Calming Design, Straightforward Interface
The goal of the Pro-Style thermometer is to alleviate as much temperature-taking stress as possible. The interface is easy to interpret, clearly delineating the three possible modes for temperature taking: oral, underarm, and rectal. The results are ready in just six seconds, calibrated according to the selected mode, presented in a large-format readout, and stored so parents can track a fever over the course of a day.
