Marconi wanted to differentiate their network communications switch from other competitors in the market. Altitude achieved this by addressing the cable management concerns often ignored by Marconi's competitors. The ForeRunner has nearly 400 cables connecting upgradeable network cards that are typically routed over replaceable components such as fans, drives and removable media devices. Altitude's innovative solution used a series of cable management tubes to route cables from network cards to key system connections, vastly simplifying the products appearance. The introduction of the ASX-400 resulted in an 8% increase in revenue for the company at a time when switch sales in the industry were falling by 10% per year.
