Increasing the Flow, Improving the Design
Portable air compressors have long been fixtures in home and commercial workshops, but they have typically underperformed because they lack the capacity and flow rate to efficiently run air-powered tools. DeWalt solved this problem by mating a 15-gallon tank with a high-efficiency compressor to offer a tank pressure of an unprecedented 200 PSI. Altitude’s job was to develop a design approach that reflected and complemented the high-performance nature of the compressor’s core technology.
Delivering Value: An Air Compressor That Stands Tall
Altitude’s engineering team chose a vertical configuration for the compressor, with the motor and compressor on top of the cylindrical tank. This arrangement makes the compressor effortless to use since the operator does not need to bend or kneel to access the control features. Stacking the components also minimizes the compressor’s footprint, allowing it to fit neatly in tight storage spaces. Finally, the vertical orientation helps the product stand out in the retail environment.
Other noteworthy aspects of the DeWalt air compressor received rave reviews for their usability, safety, and durability. For example, the handle does double duty as a hanger for the hose and protector for the power switch and safety-release valve. All key operating components are grouped together on a control panel that is angled for user convenience.
