Zen and the heart of critical care.
Cambridge Heart approached Altitude with the 'T-Wave Test,' a protocol that enables medical professionals to predict the likelihood of a cardiac fatality months ahead of other industry-standard equipment. Most people who suffer from a ventricular arrhythmia have an underlying electrical disorder of the heart that can usually be detected by the Microvolt T-Wave Alternans (MTWA) Test. With the number of deaths by heart disease continuously on the rise we were asked to design a system that would make the complex technologies easy to use, and which would meet the needs of both physicians and patients. One-on-one interviews with physicians revealed the need for a small mobile footprint and a device that could provide data instantly in hard copy form. A superior way of managing ECG and Alternans cables effectively was also needed. A snap panel was developed on the processor module that recesses the lead wires to prevent accidental disconnection from a secondary cable management system on the plastic extrusion for managing the wires connected to the snap panel. The design of the HearTwave System enables easy and accurate patient testing, reinforcing an image in the medical environment as reliable, precise and humane.
